About Yemaya

Yemaya is considered a major water deity revered by the Yoruba Peoples in Africa. She is a guide for all creation and humanity in particular, on how to live and be successful on Earth. 

Yemaya is a patron Spirit of the oceans and rivers. She is the Mother of All Life. She is strongly protective and cares deeply for all her children, comforting them and cleansing them of their sorrow.

Yemaya traveled with the black people from Africa to the distant lands of America, comforting them in the holds of the slave ships that took them far away from their homelands.

Yemaya is a Goddess of comfort and inspiration. When it comes to caring for others, her impulses are sincere, warm and purifying - healing.

Yemaya's journey with the African People to slavery, reminds us that even the worst catastrophes can be endured and that, we can learn to negotiate the ebbs and flows of change in our lives with wisdom, courage and grace.
